DNA Testing may soon be a part of a regular routine after making an arrest in New Jersey, reports NJ.COM.

Gov. Christie is debating whether the testing should be added.

DNA testing mandate

This week, New Jersey lawmakers mandated everyone arrested for certain crimes must submit the test to state and federal databases, even if they are not convicted.

Crime from homicide to kidnapping can determine if DNA testing needs to be made. Those who refuse the test could face up to 18 months in prison.

Next steps

Governor Christie has until August 13th to take initiative steps and action on the bill.

The vote on Wednesday attracted little attention. Opponents of the DNA bill said it will be a bad policy.
