Asbury Park football coach killed in accident on GSP

A beloved Asbury Park Football coach and teacher, was killed Sunday when he was hit by a car on the Garden State Parkway in Wall Township.

Asbury Park, NJ – Beloved Asbury Park Football coach and teacher John Key, was killed Sunday when he was hit by a car on the Garden State Parkway in Wall Township, after getting out his car to check on occupants of the other car he crashed with.

John Key went to help others

Key left his car, a black Chevrolet, crossing all four lanes of traffic, to check on the occupants of the other vehicle, a white Honda.

On the way back to his car, Key was struck by a blue Mercedes Benz, police said.

According to the Asbury Park Press, John Key, 37 a resident of Long Branch was a teacher in the Asbury Park schools since 2009.

Key became an Asbury Park Football coach in June before previously coaching at Monmouth Regional High School and Ocean Township High School.
