Dericke Williams: City asks family to take memorial down of murder victim

City officials in Asbury Park, NJ have asked the family of Dericke Williams to take down a memorial that shrines on 6th Avenue.

Dericke Williams’ body was found near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Bond Street on September 21st.

The request came as a surprise to city residents as other memorials were never asked to be taken down.

Some are insisting it’s because of the side of town the memorial resides.

“If it was on the other side of town, Asbury Park wouldn’t care. But because its on the “good side” of town, it needs to be rid of. Like sweeping his murder under the rug”, a Asbury Park resident person who asked to remain anonymous said.

A page dedicated to Williams said:

“So…..The City of Asbury Park has asked that we take down the Shrine on 6th Ave for Dericke. The Family has decided to do so. We again would like to thank everyone for the Balloons,cards,candles,pics and etc.”

Dericke Williams was the father of two daughters, and a 2000 graduate of Asbury Park High School.
