Cities across the country are continuing to see huge spikes in gang violence over the past year, leaving the question what needs to be done for it to end.

Gang violence on the rise

Cities like Chicago, Detroit, and even in Unheard Voices own backyard like Asbury Park & Neptune New Jersey are seeing such an escalation in gang violence, many are calling for action to find solutions to stop it.

Charlotte, North Carolina is said to have over 100 street gangs – although some officials put that figure at between 20-30.

In New Jersey, it’s estimated that 244 street gangs with membership exceeding 17,000 are exacting a bloody toll on a host of cities and towns. The nation is now at a critical juncture in its approach to gang related crimes.

Communities impacted by gangs want a more radical approach. It remains to be seen if these communities embrace more drastic measures, such as making gangs and gang membership illegal.

Radio Host Ron Holland of “COMMUNITY VOICES” and a native of Asbury Park, sat down with Minister John Muhammad to talk about his fight against gang violence.
