The Reform Party of New Jersey’s Executive Committee has voiced support for a beach access bill proposed by State Senator Michael Doherty that would require any shore town that accepts taxpayer money for post-hurricane restoration projects to grant the public free access to their beaches.
Statement on Beach access bill
“The Reform Party of New Jersey has never been opposed to working alongside politicians of other political parties when they seek to implement policies that would be beneficial to the residents of the Garden State,” said Chairman Jacob Zychick.
“In regards to the proposed beach access bill, Senator Doherty is entirely justified in arguing that the taxpayers who fund the rehabilitation of this state’s cherished shoreline should not be required to pay an additional fee in order to enjoy the end product of their taxation. We hope to work alongside the Senator in helping to advance this very important legislation in any way possible.”
About Reform Party of New Jersey
The Reform Party, founded by student activists in late 2009, is currently the only alternative political party in the state to have a partisan elected official. A centrist organization dedicated to the principles of campaign finance reform, term limits and open elections, the party has fielded candidates for public office and lobbied legislators whose ideas are compatible with their principles.
The Reform Party’s leadership agrees that Senator Doherty’s bill, which is currently in the process of being drafted, represents a step in the right direction towards abolishing the long controversial sale of “beach tags.” The Reform Party encourages all New Jersey residents to voice their support for the measure once it is formally submitted.
