Newark’s murder rate is going up and residents are fed up.
Residents want change
There’s been 10 murders in 10 days. One of the bloodiest weeks Newark has seen in history.
And we’re talking about what mainstream media has only reported.
As the crime goes up in Newark, residents claim Cory Booker is out campaigning for a Senate seat and has forgotten about his city.
Residents are fed up stating the brick city has a lack of resources, lack of police officers, drug and gang problems, and a crime rate that is surging through the roof.
A video has surfaced of news station 10/10 interviewing Donna Jackson, a well-known activist and Newark resident, on the crime in Newark. She says the media is kept in the dark on what’s really going on in Newark, claiming the city has seen 40 homicides in less than 30 days.
Newark’s murder rate
Newark is in danger she says.
According to the FBI’s annual Uniform Crime report, in 2013 Newark had a murder rate of 40 per 100,000 people, which placed it third in the country behind only Detroit and New Orleans, and ahead of other notoriously violent metropolises such as St. Louis, Baltimore and Oakland.
The rankings counted only cities with populations of at least 100,000, making communities like Camden, with small populations but nonetheless high homicide and violent crime rates, ineligible.
Newark tallied 112 murders last year, according to the report, which was its highest total since 1990.
Do you think Cory Booker is ignoring Newark’s murder rate rise?
