Sometimes it’s all in the coaching

Eric Platts is leading the way for the future generation.

Long Branch, NJ – Back in the fall of 1986, then Long Branch high tight end Eric “Big E” Platts  caught a crucial touchdown pass that helped saved Long Branch’s undefeated season. The path he took in life led him to many places in and outside of Long Branch but his heart always stayed here. Fast forward to 2013. Platts had a determined idea that not only was he going to give back, he was also going to show the youth of his community a valuable set of skills through coaching.

“I wasn’t the best player on the team but I love the game” he said, so he signed on to coach on the staff of the AYF league. Although winning and losing isn’t a major factor for the cadets(which consists of the youngest age in pads) Platts squad won every game with the exception of a tie to Bricktownship.

“My team played there hearts out and gave 100% on every play” Platts said.

Next year the kids are hoping that Platts returns to the field. ” We love coach “E” one young player said to me before running off to dance at the leagues pasta dinner.

So if you’re a parent with a child who wants to learn and play next year just know that coach Platts will be there with his trade mark sunglasses on, ready to teach.
