A man jumped to his death from the radio tower located on Memorial Parkway between Broadway and Belmont Avenue, authorities said.
Long Branch, NJ – A man has jumped this evening from the radio tower located on Memorial Parkway between Broadway and Belmont Avenue, authorities said.
Authorities say the man fell through the roof of an unsecured vacant building and did not survive the fall.
Witnesses at the scene said the man was on the top of the tower for at least an hour, during which time they could see him “swinging” around parts of the tower and could hear him yelling something that was inaudible.
When the man landed inside the building, it took quite some time to recover the body because the building was not safe according to Long Branch Safety Director Jason Roebuck:
“We couldn’t get into the building because the building was unsafe,” Roebuck said. “The floor was rotted out and we didn’t want to see anybody fall through into the basement so we had to go through a window on the side.”
Long Branch Police are still trying to identify the man.
A video has surfaced of the jumping which is too graphic to show here on the site.
