Gilda Rogers of Frank Talk Multi-Media Network, cultural critic and historian, along with Candace Kelley (founder of Curl Prep Natural Hair Solutions) a line of hair care products sold in Whole Foods, will lead a discussion titled: “Getting to the Root: Exploring Black Hair & Cultural Attitudes on Sun. Sept. 21 at Porta Restaurant 911 Kingsley St. Asbury Park.

Getting to the Root: Exploring Black Hair & Cultural Attitudes

The natural hair movement is huge with Black women opting out of chemical relaxers and wearing their hair natural, as we did when we made a statement back in the 60’s and 70’s.

However, this time around it has become a lifestyle change today and acceptance of authenticity. Many women who are going NATURAL today, unlike back-in-the day have adopted a healthier way of life in their diet and are taking better care of themselves. There will also be a series of Ebony Magazines (framed) on display the oldest one dates back to 1947 through the ’60’s.
