Brookdale student Jeffrey Michel killed

Officials say Michel, 27, of Colts Neck, was walking along Route 37 westbound at Fischer Boulevard when he was run down and killed.

Michel, who was pronounced dead at the scene, is believed to have been struck by a westbound vehicle that may have been blue in color, Stocco said.

Incident with campus police

In November 2014, Michel’s video went viral of Brookdale Community College police arresting him. The college student claimed the police were harassing him after a situation between him and another student had been diffused. The video went viral within minutes on social media with many citing excessive force by the Brookdale Community College police. After an investigation, the prosecutor’s deemed the force was necessary.
