Mourners packed the Christian Fellowship Center for Armoni Sexton’s funeral, to say their goodbyes to the promising basketball star.

Only 15 years old, Sexton will never get the chance to live out his dream of becoming an NBA player because his life was senselessly cut due the ongoing street violence in Paterson.

Armoni was killed in a drive-by shooting in which authorities say he wasn’t the intended target.

Sexton was a decorated basketball player. He played for several teams, from his school, Paterson Charter School of Science and Technology, to the Parents Who Care squad to the Playaz AAU team.

“He was the next star,” Jim Salmon, coach of the Playaz, said.

NJ.com reports there was a wide range of support from a crowd that showed how many lives Armoni Sexton touched.

Kenyatta Stewart, a Paterson attorney who was a mentor to Armoni, said he would still be there for the people who loved him in death.

“We thought he was born to be a player,” Stewart said. “He died to be an angel.”

Gregory A. Oliver, 20, of N. 3rd St. in Paterson, has been charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and weapons possession in connection with the murder and shooting.
