Dr. Bernice King speaks at Asbury Park Schools Black History Month extravaganza

On February 17, 2016 Dr. Bernice King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., came to the Paramount Theater as the keynote speaker for the Asbury Park School District’s 2nd Annual Black History Month Extravaganza.

During her speech, Bernice King spoke about continuing her father’s legacy. She also mentioned how her father was a brilliant man who did not need a speech writer and promoted equal rights for everyone regardless of their color and nationality.

In addition, Bernice King talked about how an issue of Times Magazine in 2013 called Martin Luther King Jr. the architect of the 21st century. What that meant was that Martin Luther King Jr. left a blue print of unconditional love.

She went on to promote that this unconditional love should be passed down to our children. Parents and teachers should promote this spread of unconditional love so that the children have a future and could make their dreams come true. Also, in order for unconditional love to work everyone must have the power to forgive.

According to Bernice King, her mother, Coretta Scott King taught about the power of forgiveness. To move forward everyone must forget the past, forgive, and show unconditional love. Thank you Dr. Bernice King.
