On December 16, 2016 state senator from New Jersey, Jennifer Beck, made a visit to the students of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School to attend a session of Ghana. This time not only did she do a presentation for Mr. Wronko’s social studies class but also the students in Ghana. Her presentation for all students was based on her job as a state senator and how a bill was created and passed through the New Jersey’s Legislature. Students from MLK and Ghana asked her about how was she helping to create jobs, improve the economy, and her overall job was being a state senator. She also encouraged the students on both ends to continue their education and even get involved with politics.
Besides giving her presentation, during this session several students of the MLK were selected to go to Ghana during Spring Break. Therefore, Papa, teacher of the students in Ghana, gave a visual presentation on what the students would experience during their trip. For instance, Papa showed them that they would be visiting the beaches, schools, and historical sites.
To promote this trip for the students were Sancha Gray, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Eric Jones, Darryl Batts, Dr. Sue Gendron, President of ICLE, Dr. Susie Gauzy, ICLE Consultant, and Justin Artenant, 21st Century Thought Leaders After School. The students who were selected were very excited.
