This year at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, I had my students create power point presentations for Ghana sessions, Mr. Solis (Tito Santana), Jennifer Beck, veterans, debates, and conversations.
However, I had interruptions, meaning people who came into my room and assumed that my students were doing nothing. Excuse me, wait for the final product in which these people refused to see.
Thanks to Unheard Voices Magazine, my students work from doing multiple power point presentations could be seen throughout the internet. Because of working on a power point presentation, my students informed me they developed their skills with public speaking, debating, having conversations, and developing the confidence to speak in front of people.
The proof from their success with the power point projects (On the Oiada International site) scroll to the bottom and you will see a slide show of pictures with a left and right button. You will see many things from my classroom including power points (On Sojourner Truth) and the veterans, Mr. Reed and Mr. Martin.
In addition, pay attention to the four corner picture with Martin Luther King Jr. grabbing Oia-Da and the picture below with Mr. Reed, my students, and Mr. Martin. That picture with Mr. Reed, my students, and Mr. Martin was in the overall picture of Oia-Da and given to Bernice King, Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter.
So that picture that was taken started with a student power point presentation, discussed with the veterans, picked to be apart of an overall picture for Oia-Da and then given to the daughter of Martin Luther Jr. Check out Oia-Da’s Facebook page for that image with her being presented with that picture on February 17, 2016):
