Just recently, Mr. Wronko gave the students in Ghana a presentation about the history of Halloween. The festival of Samhain was an ancient Celtic festival in which was believed to be the origins of Halloween. The students in Ghana were amazed that during this holiday you could dress up in costumes, go trick or treating, carve pumpkins, and go to parties. In addition, this was also a time in which being scared could be a lot of fun. Students in Ghana became interested in the stories that were told on Halloween. One of interest was the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Washington Irving wrote this short story in which Ichabod Crane, schoolmaster from Connecticut, encountered the Headless Horseman, a ghost of a Hessian soldier who had his head shot off by a cannonball during the Revolutionary War.

Besides the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the Ghana students liked the idea that for Halloween you could be any known super hero or villain. They enjoyed the idea of being dressed up as Darth Vader, Batman, Kylo Ren, a storm trooper, Spiderman, Thor, the Hulk, a dragon, a dinosaur, Cleopatra, King Tut, Iron Man, the Loch Ness Monster, Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and many more.

The students in Ghana may give it a try.
