Before we dive into the title of the article, I want to share a section of a paper I wrote regarding Chinese Philosophy in which I forgot to put into the Chinese Exchange Student posting. The next paragraph was a piece that I wrote for my master’s class learning about Chinese culture and history.
Social and political events in China were responsible for determining which competing philosophy of either Confucius or Chuang-Tzu would be dominant during and after the Han Dynasty. During the Han Dynasty, Confucianism was the ideological basis of government while the teachings of Chuang-Tzu were disregarded. Confucianism promoted a disciplined and organized lifestyle, which was conducive to preserving order in a growing empire. The teachings of Chuang-Tzu which called for the absence of government, were not popular as the centralized government was working at the height of the Dynasty. However, after the fall of the Han Dynasty, Chuang-Tzu’s philosophy became more prominent as it was more compatible with the chaos and dissolution of a centralized government that followed the end of the Dynasty.
That concludes the small piece I wanted to share with you.
Recently Yvette Elgart’s chorus performed for Classroom Close-up’s filming of a Ghana session. She did an outstanding job preparing her students for the filming as they sang This Is Me from the Greatest Showman and Elton John’s I’m Still Standing. Her chorus was filmed also by Unheard Voices Magazine. Currently on Facebook, Yvette Elgart’s chorus did such a great job that they received over 3,000 likes. That was very impressive.
Besides the filming of Classroom Close-up, Yvette Elgart’s chorus performed one last time before the school year ended for the students in Ghana. In addition to singing This Is Me and I’m Still Standing, Yvette Elgart’s chorus performed Michael Jackson’s Beat It. Besides performing the song, many students were able to recreate the dance moves of the legendary Michael Jackson. In my opinion this was a great honor to his memory as I have great memories of watching his video Thriller every Halloween. The students in Ghana were very grateful for this last performance and looking forward to seeing her chorus again next year.
