Cinderella is in New Jersey and she is being represented by the St. Peters University Basketball team.
No. 15 seeded St. Peters University Peacocks dominated
Quietly but surprisingly, the private institution in Jersey City defeated Kentucky 85-79 in an overtime win.
No. 2 Kentucky was a high contended to make it to the final four but they now join No. 5 UConn who was also knocked out in the first round by No. 12 New Mexico State.
Peacocks fourth appearance
This is the Peacocks fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament since the 2010-11 season. It is also the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion’s first NCAA tournament win.
St. Peters is the only Catholic university in New Jersey with approximately 3,000 students, roughly 2,100 of them undergraduates and most from New Jersey. It’s 30-acre campus sits across the Hudson River from New York City.
While not traditionally known for basketball, St. Peters University men’s basketball team said “put some respect on my name”.
St. Peters will play No. 7 Murray State for the second round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday, March 19.
