Highland Park native and Steelers QB Dwayne Haskins has died

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins and former Ohio State star, has died, his head coach said in a statement released by the team Saturday.

“I am devastated and at a loss for words with the unfortunate passing of Dwayne Haskins,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s statement reads. “He quickly became part of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the field and in our community.”

According to various reports, Haskins was struck by a vehicle in Florida while attending training camp with his team.

Career

Haskins is a Highland Park native. His family moved to Potomac, Maryland and he attended The Bullis School from 2013–2016, where he passed for 5,308 yards and 54 touchdowns. He went on to play for the Ohio State Buckeyes, becoming a finalist for the Heisman’s trophy.

Haskins was a first round draft pick in 2019 for Washington, where he played for two seasons.

Before his untimely death, he was a quarterback on reserve for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
