Two indicted for 2022 Neptune Township murder

Kedrick Chatmon and Lamare R. Walker have been indicted for the 2022 murder of 39-year-old Marques Mills of Neptune Township, N.J.


Two men have been indicted for the 2022 murder of Marques Mills.

Mills was 39 years old when he was ambushed and shot on May 14, 2022, outside his family’s Neptune Township home around 11 p.m.

Mills was pulling out the driveway from the home when at least two people jumped out of bushes near the home and opened fire on his vehicle, according to reports.

When police arrived on the scene, Mills was rushed to nearby Jersey Shore Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries on May 15, 2022.

Two people indicted for Marques Mills murder

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office announced Kedrick Chatmon, 37, of Keansburg, and Lamare R. Walker, 45, of Barnegat, were both indicted on one count each of first-degree Murder and first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder in relation to the murder of Mills.

Chatmon was also indicted on various weapons offenses as well.

A joint investigation involving members of the Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Bureau and the Neptune Township Police Department resulted in Chatmon and Walker being identified as the alleged individuals responsible.

Both Chatmon and Walker were located and apprehended on Thursday, November 21, 2024, with Chatmon being located in Keansburg and Walker was taken into custody in Barnegat.

Life before his passing

Before his untimely death, Mills was a certified personal trainer and the owner of Plugged Inn Fly & Fit Clothing.

Mills was a graduate of Neptune High School and a beloved member of the community.

Cherishing his memory are his parents, brother, son, daughter, and a host of relatives and friends.

The investigation into the murder of Marques Mills is still ongoing.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
