Thousands from all over the Jersey Shore flocked to Asbury Park beach to hear President Obama speak about Hurricane Sandy’s recovery and rebuilding efforts.

President Obama at The Jersey Shore

This was a historic day as it’s been years a sitting U.S. President has come to the Jersey Shore to speak.

Crowds stood in long lines, some brought their children with them to hear the President’s speech. The rain kept coming, but that didn’t stop the crowds to witness history.

President Obama spoke on the progress the Jersey Shore has made since the devastation from Hurricane Sandy.

“We understand there’s still a lot of work to be done,” Obama said outside Asbury Park Convention Hall. “There are homes to rebuild. There are businesses to reopen. There are landmarks and beaches and boardwalks that aren’t all the way back yet. But thanks to the hard work of an awful lot of people, we’ve got wonderful shops and restaurants and arcades that are opening their doors, and I saw what thousands of Americans saw over Memorial Day weekend.”

In his 10-minute speech, Obama commended the efforts thus far and let those in the country know the Jersey Shore is open for business

“After all you’ve dealt with, after all you’ve been through, the Jersey Shore is back and it is open for business, and they want all Americans to know that they’re ready to welcome you here.”
